Newcastle United's Benjamin Sesko hopes over as Manchester United agree deal in principle for…

· 7 August 2025, 17:00

**It was as inevitable as the tide, but Manchester United have now won the race for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as Newcastle United miss out on yet another striker.**

The misery continues for Newcastle as a cartel club beats them to another signing in a summer transfer window that has been somehow even worse than last year, when we signed Lloyd Kelly and Will Osula.

David Ornstein has now said that Manchester United and RB Leipzig have agreed a deal in principle for Benjamin Sesko, who, it seems, only ever had Manchester United in mind.

The fact that a lower bid and less money won the player suggests that Newcastle were only ever a backup option at best.

Benjamin Sesko has been given permission to fly to England for a medical

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ornstein reported on X that Sesko has been given permission to fly to England for a medical with Man United, meaning it is game over for Newcastle.

> 🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United strike agreement in principle with RB Leipzig to sign Benjamin Sesko. Deal for 22yo #RBLeipzig striker €76.5m + €8.5m. Slovenia international given permission to fly & do medical before completing #MUFC move

Only Newcastle could outbid a club and still lose out on the signing. In fairness, Leipzig had accepted Newcastle's offer, but it all came down to player preference.

Benjamin Sesko situation doesn't move the needle for Alexander Isak

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Now Newcastle must kick on with other targets, as [Ben Jacobs has also reported on X](https://x.com/JacobsBen/status/1953476754774843630) that missing out on Sesko will not affect the Alexander Isak situation.

> "Understand Newcastle's failure to sign Benjamin Sesko does not affect the Alexander Isak situation. "Newcastle have other attackers in mind."And #NUFC's feeling remains Isak must be sold or extend with no middle ground. Isak has to date shown no willingness to do latter.

It's pretty clear now that whoever we bring in to replace Isak is going to be nowhere near his level. But, it's also worth remembering that Isak himself was nowhere near his level when he first joined, so it's really not the end of the world, it just means we have to build up again. But at least this time we do it with a trophy in the cabinet.
