Former Florida star defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson was brought in to Houston with the hopes of the Texans secondary getting leadership from the Super Bowl champion.

However, he suffered a serious injury on Thursday that the team is fearing could possibly be a torn Achilles.

Gardner-Johnson began his football career at Florida, where he played for the Gators from 2016-2018. His best season was his junior year, when he had 71 tackles, three sacks and four interceptions.

After Florida, he was drafted by the New Orleans Saints with the 105th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He played his first three years there, before being traded to the Eagles in 2022. He spent one season there, and then went to Detroit in 2023.

During his lone season as a Lion, he dealt with a torn pec injury that allowed him to play in only 3 games that year.

Last season, he was back in Philadelphia, where he was a part of the team that knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The best two seasons he has had in the NFL were during both of his years in Philadelphia. He had 6 interceptions in each of his 2 years in as a member of the Eagles organization.

While it hasn’t been confirmed that it was an Achilles injury, the news doesn’t appear to be good for the former Florida star.
