Brazilian goalkeeper John Victor has turned down West Ham United and decided to stay with Botafogo this summer.
That’s according to UOL, who report that John will remain at Botafogo and won’t be joining West Ham as expected.
They report that the decision came from the goalkeeper, who has decided to stay at Botafogo and ‘win more titles’. His dream of also playing in the Brazilian national team has also played a part, with some fear that a move to West Ham could make that more difficult.
He has already reached an agreement with West Ham. Botafogo even left him out of the clash with Bragantino in the Brazilian Cup on Wednesday
He and Botafogo saw the deal, which would have seen West Ham pay around €10m, as a good one but he has now decided to remain in his homeland. He’ll face competition from Neto, formerly of Arsenal and Bournemouth, as he is set to sign after undergoing medical tests.
The rejection from John may be the reason why West Ham were today linked with a move for Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer. They had reportedly made a serious inquiry for the goalkeeper, and perhaps that is because John has now turned them down.
