Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Ademola Lookman’s situation at Atalanta as the winger pushes for a move away this summer.
The 27-year-old Nigeria international has been at the centre of a heated transfer saga, with Inter Milan already having two bids rejected for his services.
Atalanta have so far refused to sell to a domestic rival and remain firm in their €50 million valuation.
Inter’s most recent bid is believed to have reached €45 million with add-ons, but it was turned down as the Bergamo side hold out for more or seek offers from abroad.
The breakdown in negotiations has led to tensions behind the scenes.
Lookman is reported to have gone on strike, refusing to report for training and removing all traces of Atalanta from his social media accounts.
His stance follows growing frustration with the club’s refusal to sanction a transfer, especially after strong personal interest in joining Inter this summer.
While Inter wait for the green light to launch another bid, the situation remains fluid and unresolved.
Arsenal are one of the clubs keeping tabs and could enter the frame if other plans fall through.
The Gunners have been tracking Lookman for some time and view him as a potential alternative if a deal for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze proves unattainable.
Interest in Lookman could also intensify if Leandro Trossard leaves the Emirates in the coming weeks.
The Belgian’s contract is due to expire next summer, although Arsenal retain an option to extend.
However, after struggling for regular starts last season, and with interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, a departure is not ruled out.
Trossard made more appearances than any other Arsenal player last season, but a large portion of those came as a substitute.
Should he depart, Lookman would offer Mikel Arteta a dynamic and versatile wide option with European experience.
The former RB Leipzig and Leicester City winger enjoyed a standout campaign in Serie A last season, scoring consistently in both domestic and continental competitions.
He played a key role in Atalanta’s successful season, and his form has naturally drawn attention from across Europe.
Napoli and Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested, but Arsenal’s long-standing monitoring may give them an edge should the race open up further.
As it stands, Atalanta remain reluctant sellers — but Lookman’s stance may eventually force their hand.
