Manchester United have opened talks with Brighton regarding a summer move for midfielder Carlos Baleba.
United want Brighton midfielder
**Manchester Utd**’s rebuild under new head coach Ruben Amorim continues to take shape. The club is now showing serious interest in Brighton’s rising talent Carlos Baleba.
The Red Devils have recently added attacking options like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. They are still pushing to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig as well. Now, Old Trafford club has turned their eyes to their midfield.
As per David Ornstein, Man Utd have officially contacted Brighton to understand the terms for a potential move for Baleba. The player has impressed many with his energy, strength on the ball, and composure under pressure.
Despite United’s interest, Brighton are not looking to part with Baleba just yet. He has a contract that runs through 2028. The Seagulls want to retain him for another the season at least.
Financial issues could delay the deal
While United have been busy in the transfer market, they’ve yet to raise enough funds from outgoing players. Marcus Rashford moved to Barcelona on loan and the exits of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof freeing up wages. But, there’s some financial room to work with.
Still, a move for Baleba won’t come cheap. The likely arrival of Sesko could stretch the budget as well. Baleba’s form last season caught the attention of several European clubs. Brighton are not rushing to sell him this summer. That said, it will only drive up his price.
United probably needs to push some more players out before making a formal bid. The Red Devils know what Baleba can offer. He is a top midfielder who can make runs into small spaces. He also provides a physical presence in the middle of the park.
If United manage to get a deal done, it could be one of the smartest signings of their summer window.
