Man United are closing in on the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for a fee of around £74m.

All that is left now is for the player to complete a medical.

The 22-year-old is a tall, target-man style striker who also possesses a lot of pace and power when needed. He could complement United’s number 10s, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who will help to create chances for the Slovenian international.

How many goals has Sesko scored each year?

Sesko, despite being just 22, has already made over 220 appearances in his career during his time with both RB Leipzig, Salzburg, and other Austrian sides on loan.

In his 220 career games, Sesko has managed to score an impressive 100 goals in total. He has also recorded 26 assists, although that isn’t a major part of his game. Here is a breakdown of his goal stats year on year in the 22-year-old’s young career...

2019/20 - 11 goals

In his first season as a professional, Sesko was at RB Salzburg permanently after coming through the youth teams; however, he spent the season partly for Salzburg’s U18s, partly for their U19, and partly on loan at Austrian second-tier side Liefering FC.

He scored seven goals in five games for the U18s, three goals in nine games for the U19s, and one goal in 15 games for Liefering. So, he certainly had more success in the youth leagues than in the professional leagues.

2020/21 - 21 goals

In his second year, Sesko spent the majority of the season with FC Liefering, where he became their first-choice number nine, and it certainly paid off for the Austrian side. Sesko made 29 appearances for Liefering and managed to score 21 goals; he also provided six assists.

Sesko’s performances also earned him his debut for RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

2021/22 - 11 goals

After an impressive season in the second tier, Sesko took the step up to the top tier for Salzburg. He managed to make 37 appearances for the Austrian side, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in all competitions.

Sesko’s third year also provided him with his Champions League debut. He ended up making six appearances in the competition, which provided valuable experience.

2022/23 - 18 goals

In his final year at Salzburg before he moved to Leipzig, Sesko impressed further, netting 18 goals in all competitions for the Austrian side. He scored 16 league goals, and also made a total of seven appearances in both the Champions League and Europa League.

2023/24 - 18 goals

Sesko’s first year in the Bundesliga proved straight away that he could do it in the big leagues. He managed to score 14 goals in 31 games in the German top division for Leipzig.

The Slovenian striker also bagged goals in the Champions League (2) and the DFB Pokal (2), to build his tally for the season up to 18 goals. Certainly, his most impressive year so far, when you consider the step up in quality.

2024/25 - 21 goals

The improvements only kept coming for Sesko, as he managed to score 21 goals in all competitions last season, in what could be his last year before moving to the Premier League this summer.

He made 33 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 13 goals in the league. He also managed to add four goals in four games in the DFB Pokal, and four goals in eight games in the Champions League, a very impressive return.

Man United fans will hope that Sesko’s very impressive goal-scoring resume will be enough to translate to the Premier League, and justify the £74m fee that the Red Devils are paying for him.
