Report: After rejected £35m Nico Paz bid, Tottenham now making progress with move to sign Liverpool player, he is keen…

Tottenham are searching for a new attacking midfielder after a devastating setback for James Maddison.

Spurs saw a £35m bid rejected for Nico Paz by Como – according to Gianluca Di Marzio – shortly after learning that James Maddison would miss most of the 2025/26 campaign having damaged his anterior cruciate ligament against Newcastle last week.

Even before that blow, Tottenham tried to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, so there was clearly already a desire for a new No.10 in north London.

After Como demanded €70m (£61m) for Paz, Tottenham have now switched focus towards Liverpool No.19 Harvey Elliott – according to Football Transfers.

Tottenham pushing to sign Harvey Elliott

Football Transfers now claim that Tottenham are making progress with a bid to sign the England U21 international.

Elliott is said to be keen on the move as he aims to break into the England squad ahead of the World Cup next summer, with the attacking midfielder eager for more playing time having made just six Premier League starts last season.

Liverpool are described as being open to selling the 22-year-old for a sum of £40m, but are said to want a buyback clause inserted into the deal, presumably for a figure well above £40m.

Football Transfers add that Spurs are willing to accept these conditions, which is why talks are progressing in the right direction.

Richarlison and Harvey Elliott tussled last season

If Tottenham do sign the man born in Chertsey this summer, it could make for an awkward exchange at Hotspur Way.

Richarlison and Elliott came to blows at Anfield last season as Liverpool recorded a 5-1 win over Tottenham, with both receiving yellow cards after the tussle.

However, Micky van de Ven and Mohammed Kudus were able to make up after a clash last season following the Ghana international’s £55m move from West Ham, so Thomas Frank should be able to make light of the situation.
