Oldham Athletic have made their second signing of the night, securing striker Joe Quigley on a two-year deal.
Like defender Jamie Robson, whose move to Boundary Park was confirmed earlier tonight, Quigley reached an agreement to end his contract at Forest Green Rovers this week.
And Mellon, who has been on the hunt for a striker, was quick to act to boost his squad ahead of Saturday's visit of Colchester United, for Oldham's first home game back in the Football League.
The former Bournemouth, Yeovil and Chesterfield striker said: "As soon as I spoke to the manager I knew this was a club heading in the right direction.
"Boundary Park's a tough place to come as an opponent so now I'm looking forward to calling it home.
"I want to play a big part this season and help push the team on."
