Sesko to United: Hojlund wants to'fight'despite price'outline'being set

Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly determined to fight for his place at Manchester United despite the club setting a price of £40m for his services following their agreement to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Boss Ruben Amorim has overseen an overhaul of his side's offensive options, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo adding speed and technical quality to the squad.

The two forwards could soon be joined by RB Leipzig striker Sesko, who is said to be nearing a move to Old Trafford for a fee in the region of £73.3m.

Sesko's imminent arrival could spell the end of current number nine Hojlund's time at the club, with sides in Italy rumoured to be interested in his signature.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reports that United would be willing to sell the 22-year-old should their £40m valuation be met, but adds that Hojlund is still keen to fight for his place despite interest from Serie A and the Saudi Pro League.

Why has Hojlund struggled to settle in the Premier League?

The forward has struggled during his time in England, netting just four goals last season in the Premier League, down from the 10 goals he managed in 2023-24.

Hojlund is still young enough to improve his performances in the final third, but he has so far found difficulties when competing against physically imposing defenders.

One of the key markers for a striker that is firing on all cylinders is their shot volume, with the best number nines often making a higher number of attempts on goal.

Alexander Isak produced 3.1 shots per 90 in the top flight last season, whereas Hojlund produced just 1.44 per 90, highlighting the latter's struggle to generate shooting opportunities for himself.

Will Sesko be an improvement on Hojlund for Ruben Amorim?

Sesko is only 22 years old and he must be given the room he needs to develop, but his underlying numbers are more promising than Hojlund's.

The Leipzig man averaged 2.5 shots per 90 last term in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals despite the German club enduring a turbulent season that resulted in in boss Marco Rose losing his job.

It should be noted that Sesko has a tendency to shoot from a variety of angles and distances, and his shot placement will need to be refined if he is to succeed in the Premier League.

Perhaps with the creative talents of Mbeumo and Cunha playing behind him, the striker will be able to focus on his actions inside the penalty area.
