**A Premier League club are now believed to have “joined” the race to sign a “special” Liverpool player this summer, reliable journalist James Pearce has claimed.**
The start of the new Premier League season is getting closer all the time, with the Reds opening the defence of their title with a home clash against Bournemouth on August 15th.
There is still plenty of transfer business for Liverpool to sort between now and the end of the summer transfer window, however, not least trying to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz and Jarell Quansah have already left the Reds this summer, there will likely be further players to move on, too.
One of those is Ben Doak, with Pearce taking to [_X_](https://x.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1953474484599435586) to claim that Leeds United, once strong rivals with Liverpool, have “joined” the race to sign the winger:
_“Leeds United have joined the list of clubs to show interest in Liverpool winger Ben Doak. LFC would want around £20m for the Scotland international, who has impressed in pre-season so far.”_
**Can Doak make the grade at Liverpool?**
-----------------------------------------
Liverpool fans may be split over Doak’s future, with some thinking that cashing on him now makes the most sense, but others seeing him as a hugely gifted young player with a high ceiling.
The former option does arguably feel sensible, though, despite an impressive performance against Athletic Bilbao earlier this week, and even though [Jurgen Klopp](https://www.rousingthekop.com/2023/05/26/jurgen-klopp-confirms-hes-called-up-17-year-old-liverpool-youngster-to-first-team-training/) lauding him when he was Reds manager:
_“Special boy, really confident. Has something that nobody else delivers really, this kind of dribbling, this kind of straight forward bravery. Technically really good, high speed, super promising. But very young.”_
Minutes are going to be hard to come by for Doak, especially with Mohamed Salah taking up his right-sided role, and it could be more beneficial for his career to be a regular starter elsewhere.
Liverpool getting approximately £20m for the Scotland international would ultimately be good business, and while there is a risk element in selling him, given his talent, they may never be able to get as much for him again.
