Matthew Stafford is nearing a key checkpoint in his gradual approach toward participating in practice.
On Thursday, Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters Stafford (back) will go through a workout Saturday to judge where he stands with an aggravated disc that has reduced him to bystander status during camp. If all goes well, Stafford will return to practice Monday, McVay said.

Stafford's ailment -- which was initially described as a sore back -- has prevented him from participating in team drills throughout Rams camp. McVay previously downplayed the matter as simply being cautious with Stafford's health, but as the season creeps closer, concern has increased. Stafford, meanwhile, has been receiving epidurals to assist in his recovery.
While his teammates take on the Cowboys on Saturday, Stafford will approach the day as a checkpoint in his 2025 journey. If he clears it, the Rams will have reason to breathe easier with the start of the regular season just one month away.
