Lions fans won’t like where ranking of pregame fun puts Ford Field, Detroit

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions are once again expected to be the hottest ticket in town this season.

However, according to one ranking, Detroit doesn’t compare well when it comes to other pregame experiences around the league.

Bookies.com recently compiled a comprehensive list of the top NFL pregame destinations.

The list is borne from an algorithm based on multiple factors including location, tailgating (ability to park and enjoy beverage and grill), entertainment around stadium and family sentiment (Is the area safe and entertaining for kids and those with kids?).

“The game itself can be the icing on the cake,” author Adam Thompson wrote. :The real fun comes from all the activities surrounding it, from the grilling and tailgating to the vibrant bar scene with everyone adoring their team colors, to families creating core memories for their kids.”

Lions’ fans won’t agree with it, but based on the criteria, Ford Field is a bottom five destination for pregame fun at No. 28.

It ranked top 10 for its location, but far lower in the other key metrics.

“There is enough nearby for the adults, but family score took a dent due to the highest crime rate of any NFL stadium area,” Thompson wrote. “Despite the jump in team success, the pregame rank has dropped from 19th two years ago.”

Ford Field’s pregame atmosphere was ranked No. 24 in 2024. Only LA (Rams, Chargers), Miami (Dolphins) and Washington DC (Commanders) were ranked behind Detroit.

Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Atlanta and Kansas City were the top five. You can see the complete list here.
