Syracuse, N.Y. ― Carmelo Anthony wanted to have three NBA legends as his presenters at this year’s Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Two out of three ain’t bad.
Anthony, the former Syracuse University, NBA and USA Olympic star, will be among this year’s inductees at the Basketball Hall of Fame this September. Inductees are presented by a current member of the Hall of Fame.
In an interview earlier this year, Anthony indicated that he wanted three Hall of Famers to be his presenters ― Michael Jordan, Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson.
“I’m trying to do all three,’' Anthony said during an appearance on the “Podcast P with Paul George”.
“You only get in once. ... My life was impacted by more than one person, so I need three.’'
Anthony got two from his wish-list ― Iverson, Anthony’s former Denver Nuggets teammate, and Wade, who was part of the 2003 NBA Draft with Anthony.
The Hall of Fame released the full list of this year’s inductees and their presenters on Thursday.
Anthony and Iverson played together in Denver after Iverson was traded to the Nuggets in the 2006-07 season. They remained teammates in Denver for nearly three seasons, reaching the playoffs twice.
Anthony, Iverson and Wade were all part of the 2004 Olympics team. All three were also named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.
Anthony and Wade were also on the USA team that captured the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics. That squad, known as “The Redeem Team,” will also be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class.
Former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will also play a role in Anthony’s induction weekend. Boeheim and Anthony led SU to the 2003 NCAA championship. Boeheim was an assistant coach on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team.
Boeheim, who was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach, will be one of six Hall of Famers who had roles on the 2008 Olympic team to serve as presenters for the group.
The Hall of Fame induction weekend is set for Sept. 5-6 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
