LukaDoncichas shed roughly 14 kilos and embraced a leadership role ahead of EuroBasket 2025 with Slovenia and a new chapter with the Lakers.
LukaDoncichas undergone a dramatic physical transformation that is now fueling renewed optimism about his long-term potential—both in the NBA and on the international stage.
After years of criticism about his conditioning, the Slovenian superstar has returned this offseason leaner, sharper, and, according to teammates, mentally stronger than ever.
His progress was first brought into public view with a cover feature in Men’s Health, where he opened up about significant lifestyle changes—new dietary habits, sleep routines, and a revamped training regimen. The results have been eye-catching: Slovenian media reports suggest thatDoncic has lost approximately 31 pounds (14 kg) since the 2024 NBA Finals.
The timing of the transformation is no coincidence. In July,Doncic agreed to a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the Lakers, affirming the franchise’s commitment to building around him. Following a 2025 season plagued by injuries, the extension and his renewed fitness signal a fresh start in Los Angeles—and the expectation of leadership at the highest level.
Now back in Slovenia, Doncic has joined the national team in preparation for EuroBasket 2025, which begins in September. He is expected to be the centerpiece of a squad aiming to replicate—or even surpass—the success of their 2017 title run.
Doncic's basketball resume remains elite, even through the turbulence of the past season. He led the Dallas Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals before joining the Lakers via a blockbuster trade. From 2020 to 2024, he was selected to five consecutive All-NBA First Teams.
