Bo Nix responds to Sean Payton thinking he can be a top-5 NFL QB

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix is on the rise.

There’s not much doubt about that.

Still, some heads were turned earlier this week when Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he thinks Nix can be a top-4 or top-5 QB in the NFL the next two years. Payton also said he believes Nix will be a “superstar.”

After the Broncos held joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday out in Santa Clara, Nix was asked about those bold comments from his boss.

“Well first, it’s good to have a coach that believes in you, but also if he believes that then I know I’ve got a lot of work to do to get there,” Bo Nix said.

The work begins in the AFC alone, where almost everyone would have Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow ahead of Nix. That’s not to mention the likes of Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, Jared Goff, Matthew Stafford and Jordan Love in the NFC.

It’s a crowded field, but Bo Nix is embracing the challenge Payton essentially put on him.

“I don’t want to let that work go void. I want to give my best shot at going out there and doing that. Not just obviously for him, but for our team, for this organization, but for myself (as well),” Nix said.

As training camp is more than half over, Nix is embracing stacking the days. The type of labor that could eventually make him a top-5 QB in the NFL.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work into this. Each and every day it’s a battle, it’s a grind and we just want to see the fruits of our labor,” Nix said. “We talk about Super Bowls, we talk about winning culture, I think that helps a lot in being the best that I can be.”

It’s a good set of answers from Bo Nix, but many will wonder if Payton has now put added pressure on his quarterback.

We’ll start getting answers a month from today, when the regular season officially begins.
