ASU’s Jordyn Tyson facing pressure to fix crucial area as NFL prospect

NFL scouts have their eye on standout Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson ahead of the new season.

According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, Tyson is one of many prospects facing a lot of pressure before the 2026 NFL draft.

Entering his redshirt junior year, Tyson could be a first round draft pick and possibly the first receiver selected.

While Tyson had 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024, Miller says he needs to work on one thing: securing the ball.

Tyson has a legitimate claim to the WR1 spot in April if he can clean up one obvious weakness — drops.

Tyson was credited with eight drops last season on 114 targets — a drop rate of 7.0%.

But he has talent. He’s 6-foot-1, 195 pounds and has sprinter speed to get open down the field. He caught 75 passes for 1,101 yards with 10 touchdowns and closed out the regular season with back-to-back-to-back performances of more than 125 yards.

And if he can better secure the football, he has WR1 potential.

Despite Tyson’s eight drops, he managed to lead the country in receiving yards and touchdowns over his final eight regular season games.

A lot of eyes around the football world are on ASU, coming off a Big 12 championship and reaching the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, both of which Tyson missed out on from a collarbone injury.

Tyson has shown a lot of potential since transferring from Colorado, providing a spark for the Sun Devils’ offense thanks to his connection with star quarterback, Sam Leavitt.

Now being fully cleared from his injury, Tyson is ready to be the main weapon again for a loaded offense.

Every NFL prospect has their flaws when preparing for the draft. Drew Allar from Penn State (decision-making and instincts), Carson Beck from Miami (accuracy and ball placement), David Bailey from Texas Tech (prove he’s more than a situational rusher) and others were among other top players Miller listed with flaws that need to be resolved.

Tyson was the only wide receiver listed by Miller.

ASU is at Camp T until Saturday and then will face Northern Arizona in its season opener three weeks later on Aug. 30.
