Baker Mayfield Speaks Out About Skirmish With Titans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans had a joint practice on Thursday, and while there was a lot to like from both sides, the biggest takeaway was always going to be the fact that there was a brief skirmish about halfway through the practice.

The dustup started with Titans linebacker Cody Barton and Bucs center Graham Barton before devolving to include a lot more players and a solid amount of pushing, shoving, and cursing, which was likely all a result of the triple-digit temperatures.

Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield spoke about the skirmish after practice, pointing out that he was in the middle of it and had a good time, but chastised his left tackle, Tristan Wirfs, for getting involved in any capacity since he is still on crutches.

Baker Mayfield on today’s dustup with the Titans: “Yeah I was in the middle of it. It was fun.”

But he had thoughts about Tristan Wirfs getting involved.

Wirfs is working his way back from arthroscopic surgery in July and could miss time in the regular season.

While the spat between the two teams appeared to be minor and nothing out of the ordinary from a joint practice, the last thing the Buccaneers need is for their superstar blind-side protector to be put in any danger.

There was a lot of trash-talking both on the field and from the stands as well, as Bucs fans in attendance let the Titans hear it any chance they could.

Mayfield is coming off a career year in Tampa, and his getting excited about being in a training camp skirmish is exactly the kind of reaction fans have come to expect from him.
