Aaron Rodgers has checked all the boxes since joining the Pittsburgh Steelers in what will likely be his retirement campaign, and Steelers fans are hoping he can help break this franchise’s recent trend of mediocre seasons ending in one-and-done playoff appearances.
With much of the focus on offense centered around new star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, Rodgers recently called out another young receiver who has a ton of potential.
Rodgers spoke about Roman Wilson after practice on Thursday and said he needs to work with him more on the mental aspect of the game.
“I need to get Roman out of his own head a bit. He cares so much about whether it’s my approval or he’s doing it right. He’s just got to trust himself.”

Wilson was a third-round pick out of Michigan last year and missed nearly all of training camp and most of the first half of the season due to a sprained ankle, and even after getting healthy, he didn’t factor into the team’s plans at all and saw zero targets in 2024.
Things are different in 2025, and he’ll have an opportunity to carve out a role for himself in this offense, as the wide receiver pecking order is uncertain after Metcalf on the depth chart.
Wilson will be competing with Calvin Austin III, Robert Woods, and Scotty Miller for targets alongside Metcalf, and it’s nice to see Rodgers putting pressure on him early in camp.
Rodgers likely sees what many fans have seen, and that’s the incredible potential Wilson has to blossom into a reliable long-term solution at WR for this franchise.
