What Diogo Jota tributes are Liverpool planning for Community Shield at Wembley?

Liverpool will take part in the 2025-26 curtain-raiser at Wembley on Sunday against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, but the game will also be another opportunity for fans and players to remember Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva after they passed away on July 3.

The forward was a popular member of the Reds' squad, and many supporters were eagerly anticipating his return to training when the devastating news of his death broke.

Tributes from across the football world poured in for Jota and his brother, and there are certain to be more in the coming season.

While no official plans have been made public regarding the tributes set to take place on Sunday, the FA have held talks with Liverpool about plans for the weekend's match.

The tributes for Diogo Jota so far in pre-season

When Liverpool played their first pre-season friendly against Preston North End at Deepdale on July 13, a rendition of the Reds' iconic You’ll Never Walk Alone anthem was performed prior to kick off.

A wreath was also laid before the Liverpool supporters by the home side, while the away end was draped in a canopy of banners and scarves honouring Jota and his brother.

Sir Kenny Dalglish also laid a wreath to remember both brothers before the Reds played AC Milan on July 26, while Ian Rush did similarly before the Merseysiders played Yokohama F. Marinos on July 30.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson and Athletic Bilbao president Jon Uriarte laid a wreath together on the pitch at Anfield in front of the Kop ahead of the sides' clash on Monday, while the front cover of Liverpool's matchday program was adorned with photos of Jota, with an obituary inside titled 'Forever our no.20'.

Fans can expect similar tributes at Wembley, while a moment's silence will also likely be observed on Sunday.

What Liverpool have done to remember Diogo Jota

Liverpool have retired the number 20 across all levels of the club in remembrance of Jota following consultations with his family.

The Reds also opened a physical and digital book of condolence in the aftermath of the forward's death, with a large number of supporters signing.

Plans have been unveiled to honour Jota with a sculpture at Anfield that will incorporate the thousands of tributes left by fans outside the stadium following news of his death, including flowers, shirts, scarves, hats, artwork, flags, and banners, which were collected by staff.
