The Chicago Bears have put their franchise in the hands of former USC star quarterback Caleb Williams. Chicago took Williams with the first overall pick two years ago. This off-season they added a head coach who is determined to get this offense clicking.
Now, as reports are coming out of Chicago that the offense has been struggling during training camp, their star quarterback reportedly had his heart broken.

During a rapid-fire passing drill, Caleb Williams appeared visibly upset after missing nearly every target:
His body language showed irritation, and he even appeared to shout in frustration. However, the Bears’ second-year quarterback later clarified that the entire reaction was staged and part of the competitive fun among teammates.
I just laugh at it. … I was competing, I missed it. It was fake anger that I showed. Being with your friends … you might use some choice words with your buddies,” Williams said during a press conference.
He further explained the context of the drill that led to the lighthearted outburst.
It’s a quick delivery drill. So you catch it, you’re not trying to get the laces or anything. It’s not like you’re going through reads. It’s just catch, deliver and try to deliver to the bottom left corner. We’re trying to aim as if it’s a screen. It’s a competition between us. So how fast you can get it out, how accurate you can get it out. It just so happened that they blow that one up and not any other ones.

With this clarification, it became evident that Williams wasn’t actually angry, but instead caught up in the intensity of the moment and the camaraderie shared with his teammates.
This season will be a crucial one for Caleb Williams, who is entering his second year with the Bears after being selected as the franchise’s top quarterback. His rookie campaign showed flashes of potential, but for Chicago to take the next leap, they’ll need Williams to elevate his performance considerably in 2025.
With the arrival of Ben Johnson as head coach, the focus has shifted toward precision and execution. One of the primary goals is for Williams to complete at least 70% of his passes, a significant benchmark that would demonstrate growth in accuracy and decision-making. The team’s front office is on board with the plan, including general manager Ryan Poles, who spoke openly about the expectations placed on the young quarterback.
