Chiefs putting Patrick Mahomes at risk

The Kansas City Chiefs are eager to bounce back from what was a downright embarrassing performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX that ended in a 42-20 loss. Kansas City has shifted its focus to getting back to the Super Bowl, and Mahomes has been candid this offseason about what needs to improve to make that happen.

“We got to keep doing it, though, and we got great corners, so that’s going to be a lot of challenges for us,” said Mahomes of pushing the ball downfield. “But even on some of those that we throw incomplete, that we’re throwing down the field, we can talk through those routes and talk through that stuff.

“And so that’s the mindset is getting back to throwing the ball down the field, and if we can do that, it’ll open up the rest of the offense.”

Now, it would seem that the Chiefs are willing to even put Mahomes in harms way in an inconsequential game in order to make that a reality.

“Chiefs HC Andy Reid says the plan is for Patrick Mahomes to play the first quarter of Saturday’s preseason game vs. the Cardinals. Reid has long been a believer in giving starters preseason reps,” reported Ari Meirov on Twitter.

“He needs the reps, we all saw how he played in the Super Bowl,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Yea they need it to. We all saw what that offense looked like the last time they hit the field,” one fan added.

“It’s a big reason why the Chiefs start out well each year,” another fan wrote.

Hopefully, Mahomes can stay healthy and reach the regular season at full stregth.
