CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Gray Media’s Telemundo stations will be airing the Carolina Panthers’ preseason games in Spanish for the first time this year.
Sportscaster Carlos Ramírez has the honor of being one of the announcers of the games, and the moment is something he has worked for his entire life. “To do it in Spanish for the Carolinas is legitimately and 100% a dream come true,” said Ramírez.
It is a dream that he has been striving for since he was just a kid, “My goal was always to come to the states, crossover from Spanish to English, and then work in both worlds and get to the nfl. That was my end game. It always has been and always will be,” shared Ramírez.
Ramírez already has a resume that is too long to list, from the Super Bowl to major league soccer, and now, for the Carolina Panthers.
This chapter started in Charlotte of all places—more than 10 years ago -- when Remirez tried to bring a Spanish broadcast to the Hornets. He said, “Cut to 10 years ago, and now the Panthers are calling me to tell me we want you, and we want to acknowledge the importance of this project and this product for the Hispanic fan base. So it really felt like. Serendipity, because here I am, 10 years ago, trying to get this off the ground with the hornets, and at the same time, the panthers are trying to get this off the ground by themselves, and now we’re coming together to do this.”
Ramírez’s next goal is to bring the Spanish broadcast into every household. He believes, “it’s the same sports, same game, same everything, but just the energy level that both myself and Ariana will bring to the broadcast. I think we’ll blend. And attract both hispanic speaking, spanish speaking fans and also the english speaking fans.”'
So for now, Carlos will be spreading the same high energy, living out his dream this preseason in the Panthers’ press box. “It really felt like a momentous full circle occasion for my career.”
Carlos Ramírez and Ariana Figueroa will announce all of the Panthers’ preseason games starting this Friday when the Panthers face the Browns at 7 pm, airing on Fox Carolina.
