Aston Villa were handed an injury scare just 10 days before the start of the new season when Morgan Rogers was forced off against AS Roma.

Villa recorded their sixth win of the summer with a 4-0 victory at the Bescot Stadium, but Rogers’ departure just minutes after being introduced at half-time cast a shadow over the night.

He fell to the floor in pain and required medical attention from the Villa staff before being helped back to his feet.

Rogers initially jogged off in the hope of continuing, but ultimately decided to come off and headed straight down the tunnel.

However, in a boost for Villa, Rogers’ injury is not thought to be serious, and he is targeting a return to action next weekend against Newcastle United.

Featuring in either of Villa’s friendlies against Marseille or Villarreal this weekend appears unlikely.

The team face Marseille in France on Saturday (6pm) before taking on Unai Emery’s former club Villarreal in Spain on Sunday (8pm).

The new Premier League campaign kicks off on Saturday, August 16, with Villa travelling to Newcastle for a 12:30pm kick-off.
