‘Deal Done’ – Leeds United striker’s exit confirmed

Leeds United are working on several deals to further strengthen the squad before the end of the transfer window on September 1st. However, the Whites also need a few departures, and several players are expected to move on in the coming weeks.

Daniel Farke has emphasised the importance of Leeds strengthening their forward line in the remaining weeks of the transfer window to improve their chances of survival in the Premier League next season. He believes the squad are weaker than last season when it comes to options in the final third.

Leeds are in the market to bring in a striker, a number 10 and a left-winger while also trying to sign a new full-back to allow Isaac Schmidt to complete a loan move to the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen.

However, Leeds also need a few departures as several players are not part of Farke’s plans in the Premier League. But they are still on the club’s books ahead of the end of the window.

Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt has departed for Hull City

Joe Gelhardt spent a fruitful loan spell at Hull City last season and played an important part in keeping the club in the Championship.

Hull have been keen to take him back to the MKM Stadium, and have been in talks with Leeds to secure a deal to sign him in the ongoing transfer window.

Middlesbrough made a late attempt to hijack the deal, but according to the BBC, Gelhardt has completed a loan move to the Tigers this summer.

The deal is done, and Gelhardt will spend the next season at Hull before his contract at Leeds expires next season.

The forward has taken a pay cut to complete the move as his wages doubled automatically when the Whites got promoted to the Premier League.

He was happy at Hull last season and was always going to prefer a move to the MKM Stadium despite interest from Middlesbrough in the ongoing transfer window.

Gelhardt is expected to be part of the squad when Hull take on Coventry City on Saturday.

The Joe Gelhardt chapter at Leeds is over

Snapping up Gelhardt from Wigan in 2020 was seen as a coup, and Leeds got to see glimpses of his talent in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.

The forward has often struggled to live up to the initial hype, and in Daniel Farke, he found a manager who never really trusted him to do a job for Leeds.

His loan spell at Hull last season was good, but that was unlikely to change Farke’s mind as Leeds prepare to play in the Premier League next season.

With his contract expiring next summer, Gelhardt’s chapter at Leeds is now closed following his loan exit to Hull.
