Manchester United’s goalkeeping position is one of the hardest roles to fill in world football, but there is an exciting youngster coming through the ranks with potential to be a future number one.
The goalkeeping position has once more been fiercely debated this summer at Manchester United, with Andre Onana far from convincing.
Onana arrived billed as a world-class goalkeeper, however, from the very start he has failed to showcase this with mistakes far too commonplace.
Due to these struggles there have been plenty of links this summer, with United linked with Gianluigi Donnarumma among others such as Senne Lammens.
Earlier this summer, Wayne Rooney even suggested United re-sign David de Gea to replace Onana, and now, this weekend the Spaniard is due to be back at Old Trafford, only it will be in the purple of Fiorentina.
So it is only fitting that a Carrington wonderkid has started showing signs he could be like the second coming of De Gea.

Byrne-Hughes won United the point as he pulled out an excellent point blank save which was commended by the commentator on Dinamo+ who gasped in awe as the English youngster denied the opposition against the odds.
It was the kind of save which made De Gea so beloved at United, managing to somehow keep it out of the goal, and he also made another couple of stops as the Red Devils underperformed.
Byrne-Hughes is developing a reputation for his shot stopping and there are real signs that he will be a future top class goalkeeper, with the De Gea comparisons sure to continue if he keeps making excellent saves.
In a summer when Elyh Harrison has followed Dean Henderson’s footsteps by heading to Shrewsbury on loan, there is a chance Byrne-Hughes can follow Harrison’s.
Harrison is a goalkeeper with a “huge future”, as his manager at Shrewsbury has claimed, but just 12 months ago the 19-year-old was at the Mladen Ramljak Tournament and here he won the goalkeeper of the tournament award.
This was his second consecutive time winning this award, and this year Byrne-Hughes has started excellently to stake his own claim to win the award on Sunday.
Last season, Byrne-Hughes kept seven clean sheets in 13 U18 Premier League appearances, which is an impressive record which he will hope to bring to U21 football this coming campaign.
One wonderkid worth keeping an eye on.
