Mateo Joseph tried to force move to Real Betis by not travelling with Leeds United for their pre-season tour.
Daniel Farke publicly expressed his disappointment with the striker’s situation, while the La Liga didn’t then push further, hoping instead to drag things out and force the Whites into a bargain deal.
Leeds wanted to sell him or let him leave on a dry loan deal. Despite setting clear terms, the Spanish club made it clear they don’t want to match it. Real Betis’ plan was to wait until the end of the window to snatch the striker on a favourable deal.
On Thursday, Marca reported RCD Mallorca sporting director Pablo Ortells has held direct talks with the 21-year-old. Later that day, AS explained he’s a step away from joining the Spanish club on loan.
Sport now report the latest on Mallorca’s rapid operation to complete the Leeds player’s signing.
Joseph arrived in the Spanish city at 10:30pm yesterday and will undergo medical tests with Mallorca today. He told the media outside the airport that he’s “very happy” and is “eager to get started” with his new club.
According to Sport, Real Betis and Girona wanted the Spain U21 international on loan with a buying option. Leeds wanted to sell him for €14m or let him go on a simple loan, and Ortells has now agreed to the latter.
Marca reports Joseph’s medical with Mallorca has been scheduled at 9:30am [local time] today.
They reported yesterday that Pablo Torre has been persuading the Leeds player to join him at the Spanish club. This has now been backed up by Joseph himself.
“I’m looking forward to it [moving to Mallorca]. I’ve known Pablo Torre my whole life. He’s the first one I’ve spoken to,” Joseph explained, relayed by Marca.
Marca journalist Juanmi Sánchez took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post a video of Joseph arriving at an airport late on Thursday.
