Bundesliga club chief opens door for Newcastle United to finally win transfer race

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has publicly addressed transfer links between them and Newcastle United target Nicolas Jackson.

The Magpies suffered yet another blow in a difficult transfer window on Thursday, when it was confirmed that Benjamin Sesko had chosen Manchester United and was travelling to the North West for a medical.

Sesko’s decision leaves Eddie Howe with a fresh problem with the Premier League season starting in just over a week; a new striker needs to be signed, with the future of Alexander Isak looking like it will be away from Newcastle United.

Reports are now stating that Newcastle are interested in Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, but they could be forced to pay as much as £80million for him this summer. Despite that, Newcastle value Jackson at around £60million, but it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle have faced competition for virtually every player they have held a serious interest in this summer, and it was a similar fate with Jackson, with Bayern Munich interested in the 24-year-old. However, the Magpies are in luck, as recent comments from Max Eberl suggest they could win this race.

Bayern Munich not interested in Nicolas Jackson amid Newcastle United links

Chelsea have opened the door to Jackson leaving this summer, so Newcastle could be in luck in their hunt for a quality striker who could come in as a replacement for Isak, who could still join Liverpool this summer.

Many roadblocks have stopped Newcastle from signing players this summer. The likes of Chelsea, Man United and Manchester City have taken those who looked destined to sign for the Magpies away from them at the last minute, leaving Howe frustrated.

Some fans are sure to be worried about Bayern’s interest in Jackson, but sporting director Eberl has confirmed that the Senegal international is not somebody they are looking to sign.

“Definitely not. I never spoke to him,” Eberl told the press after a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur.

“There are still almost four weeks, so you can never rule anything out. We’ll see what happens and what’s happening around us.”

Another striker could follow Nicolas Jackson through the door at Newcastle United

Isak is missing Newcastle’s friendlies against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid this weekend, so William Osula or Anthony Gordon will likely lead the line in either of the two games.

With Osula still raw and Gordon a natural winger, it is clear that at least one new striker must be signed before the end of the summer transfer window. Newcastle will hope that Jackson is one of them, but another player could also soon follow him through the door if everything goes to plan.

Newcastle are very interested in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who is reportedly very open to joining the Magpies after a brilliant season with the Bees. However, Brentford rejected Newcastle’s first approach for Wissa, causing the 28-year-old to try to force a move away.

Reports suggest that Newcastle are ‘expected’ to sign Wissa, who will be a replacement for Callum Wilson, who left the club in July after five seasons. If the pair join, there will be one major issue which could see the Magpies’ season fall apart. Wissa and Jackson will play at AFCON from December 21 to potentially January 18, so Howe could be without two quality strikers for the better part of a month due to their other commitments.
