Cristiano Ronaldo has thrown his support behind João Félix’s move from Chelsea to Al Nassr, describing it as the right step at this stage of the forward’s career.
Fresh from scoring a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Rio Ave – in which Félix set up two goals – [Ronaldo dismissed claims in Portugal](https://sportinforma.sapo.pt/futebol/amigaveis-clubes/artigos/cristiano-ronaldo-e-joao-felix-foi-melhor-para-ele-ir-arabia-saudita-do-que-jogar-na-liga-portuguesa) that the Saudi club had “stolen” the player from Benfica. _“Steal? That’s an ugly word. Nobody here steals from anyone,”_ he told reporters.
_“The Saudi league is very competitive, played at great pace. I’ve said it before, going to Saudi Arabia was a better option for Félix than playing in the Portuguese league. Just look at the number of stars here. Even without the Champions League, it’s the right decision for him.”_
Speaking about the deal, [Al Nassr manager Jorge Jesus](https://sportinforma.sapo.pt/futebol/amigaveis-selecoes/artigos/jorge-jesus-tambem-acha-que-felix-escolheu-bem-esta-num-pais-onde-nao-ha-alcool-nao-ha-divertimentos-nao-ha-distracoes) made it clear: _“He was not a Benfica player. He was a Chelsea player. He could have come to Al Nassr or gone to another club. I believe in his football, he has characteristics that fit my attacking style. Last year I wanted to take him to Al Hilal, but he chose Chelsea. When I arrived at Al Nassr, I invited him straight away and a month and a half later it was possible, and I’m glad it happened.”_
Jesus also pointed to the player’s lifestyle in Saudi Arabia as a factor that will help him stay focused. _“There’s no alcohol, no nightlife distractions, he can only play, rest, and be with family and friends,”_ he explained.
According to multiple reports, the transfer cost Al Nassr €30m, with clauses set by Chelsea potentially pushing the total up to €50m.
While impressed by Félix’s mentality and decision-making, the coach still feels the forward is performing below the level his talent allows.
