Arsenal have seen two players nominated for the Ballon d’Or in 2025, as the nominations were announced on Thursday afternoon.

The Gunners had a decent season last year, they managed to finish second in the Premier League for the third year in a row, challenging against Liverpool rather than Manchester City this time around.

Arsenal’s best performances were in the Champions League however, as they managed to reach the semi-finals of the competition, for the first time since 2009. They beat Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, but ended up falling to eventual champions PSG in the semi-finals.

Mikel Arteta has already begun to improve his squad this summer, adding Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi to name a few. But with the 2025 Ballon D’or nominees announced, which two Arsenal players have been put forward for the legendary accolade.

Two Arsenal players receive Ballon d’Or nominations

The 2025 Ballon d’Or nominations are out, and two Arsenal players have been selected for the voting alongside the big favourites Mo Salah, Ousmane Dembele and Jude Bellingham.

Firstly, Declan Rice was nominated for the award, which doesn’t come as a surprise considering that he was the Gunners’ best player last season. Rice played more of an attacking role than usual, and it certainly paid off.

The English midfielder made 52 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, scoring nine goals, and providing 10 assists. He also scored the two insane free-kicks during the Gunners’ first leg against Real Madrid at the Emirates…goals that will go down in Arsenal history.

Secondly, new signing Viktor Gyokeres has also been nominated, which also comes as no surprise to anyone considering his ridiculous numbers last year. Gyokeres had arguably the best scoring record in the world last year for Sporting CP, netting 54 goals in 52 games.

Arsenal fans will hope that he can carry that forward this year. The full list of nominees is available on the UEFA.com website.
