Negotiators fly to England for Manchester United meeting – Progress made as exit is front page story

On Thursday, Corriere dello Sport reported AC Milan were laying down the foundations of a move for Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund.

The newspaper claimed the Italian side were seeking help from well-known intermediaries to strike an initial loan deal.

While today’s Corriere dello Sport reports representatives close to Milan have flown to England to speak to Manchester United, the Dane’s situation is front page news at Gazzetta dello Sport.

The pink daily report a meeting between the two clubs in London involved a well-known intermediary and there’s been progress.

Manchester United have expressed an openness to loaning Højlund, who is attracted by the idea of joining Milan.

A meeting involving the striker and the Red Devils can be vital as it will convince the 22-year-old that he needs to depart Old Trafford after the incoming arrival of Benjamin Šeško.

Despite these promising signs, Milan are being cautious. There is still work to be done to find an agreement, especially because Manchester United are aiming to earn a high amount and the Rossoneri also do not want to be beaten by competitors.

The Italian side want to make sure that a deal for Højlund is as low risk as possible. If they commit to an initial loan with a fee around €5m to €6m, they’d feel a committment to keeping him regardless of how he plays.

They do not want to fall into that trap and that is why discussions with Manchester United can still take some days or even weeks.

Max Allegri’s side want an option to buy of €35m inserted in the loan deal but are preparing to work hard to find an agreement.

Tuttomercatoweb report that the option to buy can be as high as €50m including bonuses but they indicate that further talks will take place between the two clubs.
