Manchester United plan to include Toby Collyer in a deal to sign Carlos Baleba
The 2024/25 season was like a deep blow for us. Finishing 15th in the Premier League, losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and then being eliminated from European competitions for 2025/26 – seeing all this was heartbreaking. We put Ruben Amorim on the bench for half the season, but no miracle happened in the situation. This is the same Manchester United, who were known for winning, but now a new season is coming and with it comes new hopes.
The shameful story of last season should now be a thing of the past. Every defeat brings a lesson, and Manchester United should have learned that lesson. The goal for now is to stand up again, to fight again in the upcoming season. Amorim will now get a full season, and with this confidence, the club have also taken some tough decisions. The signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are a reflection of this intention. Also, the joining of Diogo Leon is a sign of strengthening the youth system.
Plan to bring Baleba from Brighton
The report of August 6 from The Athletic has made it clear that Manchester United are now trying for Brighton’s star midfielder Carlos Baleba. According to The Athletic, the club have contacted Brighton through intermediaries. These efforts have not been direct because Brighton are not in the mood to sell the Cameroon player right now, but United are not stopping in their pursuit. The club want to create a win-win situation by including Toby Collyer in the deal.

Man United could include Toby Collyer in a deal to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton as they plan an approach for the highly-rated midfielder.
Collier’s name is important in this deal because he has come out of Brighton’s academy. From U12 to U23, he has spent six years there. AMEX Stadium is a familiar place for the player, and if he wants a chance to prove himself in the Premier League, then there can be no better place than Brighton at the moment. At the same time, Baleba will also have a golden opportunity to play with Kobbie Mainoo at United.
Not right now, but a deal is possible in the future
Manchester United might not be able to sign Baleba this summer, but all hope is lost. If Brighton want to keep the 21-year-old this season, United will just have to wait a little longer. Collyer’s presence could make a deal easier down the line, especially if Brighton are interested in bringing him back.
For Collyer, a move to Brighton could be an emotional return. Not every player gets to play for their boyhood club, and frankly, he’ll get a lot more playing time at AMEX – more than he’ll ever get at Old Trafford. On the other hand, United could get a double midfield backbone in Mainoo and Baleba that will be the backbone of the team for years to come. Manchester United need a fresh start, and if that start is made with thought and the right players in place, it won’t be long before the walls of Old Trafford will once again echo with “Glory Glory Man United!”
