‘I’ve wanted this’: Mateo Joseph gives honest response ahead of Leeds United exit

Leeds United and Mateo Joseph will soon be parting ways for the 2025/26 season.

It’s been quite a sour end for the Spaniard at Elland Road as the striker has seemingly forced the move away from West Yorkshire.

Joseph didn’t turn up to pre-season in Germany, which left Daniel Farke with no choice but to let him go this summer as the striker wants out.

But once again, the 49ers are being smart and coordinated with their transfers, as Leeds are only loaning Joseph to Mallorca, as they don’t want to take the risk of a full sale with his contract still intact until 2027.

Now, the young striker has been spotted ahead of his switch and has given a very honest response to his next chapter away from Leeds.

Leeds United’s Mateo Joseph says he’s always wanted move to Mallorca

With the 21-year-old still showing the promise that the Whites brought him in for, it’s a shame to see his attitude let him down.

There have been previous rumours about the Spain under-21 international leaving, and now it’s just a matter of time before his Leeds days are behind him.

Leeds are fuming with Joseph’s behaviour towards this saga, and now the forward has been spotted at the airport talking to the Spanish press about his eventual move back to Spain.

Courtesy of Juanmi Sanchez, a reporter asked the Whites star if he had spoken to Mallorca Sporting Director Pablo Ortells, to which he responded: “No, I haven’t spoken with Pablo Ortells yet, but it’s great. I’ve heard wonders about the island.

“Yes, yes, all my life I’ve wanted this. It’s the first club that contacted me. I’m happy,” Joseph continued on.

“This year it’s La Liga. What do I expect? To help as much as possible, like I try every day.”

Farke confirmed Joseph wasn’t in his plans, and this loan just looks like a pathway to a permanent exit.

Although his promise could transform him elsewhere, the Whites can benefit from his success.

Leeds United can see Joseph’s value ‘skyrocket’ at Mallorca

Of course, this adds to the Peacocks’ need for a new number nine now, as Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha probably can’t be relied upon.

This was always the case with Leeds in the market for a striker, but as one attacker exits, the need has now become a must.

As mentioned, his promise could shine back in Spain, with Joseph having comparisons to Erling Haaland, but this could benefit the Whites.

Although keeping the Spaniard was Farke’s priority, Leeds could see Joseph’s value ‘skyrocket’ with a consistent run of games after proving to be a nightmare for defenders at times.

The Whites boss won’t want the striker anywhere near his squad after his attitude problems, so this seems like the best solution, as the club can receive a decent fee with other clubs gaining interest.

Despite his actions, a loan deal was a smart choice, and fans should keep a keen eye on how the 21-year-old gets on.
