Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt is set to join Hull City on a season-long loan, with a medical due to be completed within the next 24 hours.
Colleagues at our sister site Hull Live have outlined that the move was ‘driven’ by Gelhardt himself, who does not feature in Daniel Farke’s plans next season. The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Tigers, scoring five times in 20 games.
A change in manager at Hull did not sway the mindset of Gelhardt, with new boss Sergej Jakirovic keen on him, as is owner Acun Ilicali. The forward has two years left on his Leeds United deal, so could still be sold for cash next summer.
Hull are under transfer restrictions this summer and Leeds, who were generally open to a permanent sale, have helped in ensuring that EFL regulation terms were met - the Championship club are not allowed to pay loan or transfer fees for arrivals this summer, for now, subject to an appeal.
Gelhardt is set to become the third Leeds player loaned out this window, following Max Wober and Charlie Crew's temporary moves. Wober's switch to Werder Bremen was a move which benefited the Whites financially within amortisation value - the cost of a player spread out of the length of a contract. His loan also has an option to buy clause.
Mateo Joseph looks set to become the fourth loanee to leave the club amid an imminent straight loan exit to Mallorca. The want-away striker was spotted en route to the Spanish island on Thursday evening, having handed in a transfer request last month.
