Harvey Elliott held talks over Tottenham transfer

Harvey Elliott is considering his options ahead of a possible move from Liverpool this summer, with reports claimed he held exploratory talks with Tottenham.

Liverpool are aware of interest in Elliott after entering the final months of the transfer window, but no decision has been made on his future yet.

This Is Anfield understands there has been contact from RB Leipzig this week, with the Bundesliga side one of a number of clubs interested in a transfer.

Elliott has also held talks with Tottenham over a potential move to north London, but the Times report that a move was not pursued after that.

Whether that changes following a ruptured ACL for James Maddison remains to be seen, however, with the No. 10 expected to miss the majority of the new campaign after picking up the injury during pre-season.

Losing Maddison will add to their urgency in reinforcing their attack, particularly having also seen Heung-min Son join Los Angeles FC this week.

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank confirmed there are plans to enter the transfer market to find a solution, telling reporters: “We are definitely in the market in general.”

“Of course, when players get a long-term injury we need to look into that, but generally we are in the market, yes,” Frank was quoted by the Evening Standard.

“Nobody feels close or far away. I’m not saying anything before there’s anything that is completely 100 percent.”

Elliott scored in the 4-1 friendly win over Athletic Club on Monday evening before appearing to bid farewell to supporters at Anfield when he was substituted off.

It was perhaps telling that, when Arne Slot listed his extended attacking options during his press conference on Friday, there was no mention of his No. 19.

“I think, we think, we already have a lot of attacking power in our team,” Slot told reporters ahead of the Community Shield.

“I think about Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Mo Salah, Jeremie Frimpong who play as a right winger, Florian Wirtz who can play as a left winger.

“I already feel I have a lot of attacking options in my current squad, but as always as a club, we are always looking at the chances in the market.”

Despite the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, the death of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez‘s imminent move to Al-Hilal, Elliott’s situation does not seem to have improved.

And with Liverpool target another addition in attack, namely Newcastle‘s Alexander Isak, the likelihood is that if the right terms can be agreed the 22-year-old will move on – to Tottenham or elsewhere.
