Leeds United suffer huge blow as Nottingham Forest enter talks with £26M target

As the new season draws closer, Leeds United know they have some business to do. Daniel Farke has already complained about the quality in attack.

He mentioned that the team needs more options after the friendly game against Villarreal. Farke also added that Leeds failed to replace the quality Manor Solomon brought last season. The Spurs loanee had 10 goals and 12 assists last season.

According to reports, the club will be in for a fullback, number 10 and a striker. There could be more movement, depending on departures. A whole host of names could leave the club between now and the end of the month. Hopefully the additions will be good enough to replace them heading into the new season.

Last month, the Athletic mentioned that Leeds had their eye on Strasbourg winger Dilan Bakwa. He was an alternative as they club pursued Igor Paixao. Eventually, the move for the Brazilian fell through.

Leeds have not moved for Bakwa or submitted a bid. According to Sacha Tavolieri, Nottingham Forest have had a bid rejected for the 22-year old. Strasbourg want higher than the £26.2million the English club have offered.

Another opportunity missed

This is the latest player that has been reportedly linked to Leeds. Just this week, it was revealed that Bobby Clark turned down the opportunity to join the club before he moved to Derby County. Graham Smyth also added that Ritsu Doan was a serious target the club would have moved for, but they delayed and never submitted a bid. The Japanese international is now set to move to Frankfurt.

All this has come after Leeds missed out on their first major target Igor Paixao. Now, the club is scrambling and throwing their net over a wide range of targets.

Leeds were not spending £26M on Dilan Bakwa

Per the report, Leeds considered the Strasbourg man as he was on their shortlist. But looking at the player’s ability and the fee the French club are looking for, it was unlikely that a move was sanctioned. The Whites already pulled out of a deal for Habib Diarra due to the transfer fee.

Dilan Bakwa is not as good as Diarra when comparing quality so the valuation would have been way off. Hopefully the club have serious alternatives lined up for later this month.
