Man United have signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, beating Newcastle United to the Slovenian striker.
Manchester United have finally found themselves a new striker, as they have secured RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, who has previously been linked to Arsenal and was also subject to bids from Newcastle United.
Sesko chose a move to United over Newcastle, even though the Magpies will be in the Champions League next season, and United won’t have any sort of European football. A deal was completed with a total of £74m agreee, including add-ons, making Sesko United’s third major signing in attack this summer.
After spending almost £200m on players this summer, the Red Devils will need to sell moving forward to help balance the books. But, for now, they can focus on the future with Sesko and what the Slovenian can offer Ruben Amorim this season.
Sesko sacrificed wages to join Manchester United
All the reports made it very clear that Sesko always wanted the move to Old Trafford rather than Newcastle, showing that the Manchester club’s pull remains, and that the Red Devils are still capable of beating top clubs to world-class players.
Amorim will hope that Sesko can add goals after a season where he netted 21 goals in all competitions for RB Leipzig. But Amorim has also said he wants players who want to play for United, and Sesko is the perfect example of that.
“His agency, led by Elvis Basanovic, has also given up a significant share of the commission. This was necessary to push the move to Man United over the line. MUFC Medical and contract signing (until 2030) are scheduled within the next 72 hours.”

Not only has Sesko sacrificed the chance to play Champions League football by choosing United over Newcastle, he has also sacrificed how much he could be earning. It is not understood yet as to how much Sesko will be on at Old Trafford, but the fact that he could have had more at Newcastle shows the Slovenian striker was desperate to come to the North West.
What is Man United’s next summer move?
After signing three attackers, Amorim will now want to strengthen in central midfield, and potentially in goal too. However, before he can do that, player sales must be a priority, as Marcus Rashford is the only departure so far, and that was on loan.
