It’s very rare for football managers to speak about transfers while they are still in the process of getting complete.

Al-Hilal and Liverpool have agreed a deal worth €53 million (£46.2 million) plus substantial add-ons that could see the total package rise to €65 million (£56.6 million).

He will sign a 3-year deal and could earn up to £400k per week.

The deal marks a significant moment for the Saudi Pro League, as they secure a player in his prime years from the reigning Premier League champion.

The striker leaves having scored 40 goals in 143 appearances across all competitions.

His final season under Arne Slot proved particularly challenging, with the Dutchman starting him in just eight Premier League matches and the player managing only seven goals across all competitions

However, when answering questions around whether Alexander Isak is a replacement for Darwin Nunez, Arne Slot appeared to confirm that the deal is in the process of getting complete:

“As you know, we never talk about players that aren’t yours,” he said during his press conference ahead of the Community Shield final.

“I can talk about Hugo who signed recently. We are very happy with the squad we are having.”

“Okay, players left but we brought players in as well and youngsters are doing good.”

“Darwin might leave but things aren’t signed yet. We need to wait a few days before things are done.”

The move would see Nunez join a squad that already boasts Portuguese internationals Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo, Senegalese captain Kalidou Koulibaly, and former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Liverpool fans will bid farewell to a player who, despite his inconsistencies, provided memorable moments during his time at Anfield.

His late winners against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest in Jurgen Klopp’s final season, along with crucial goals in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign like the brace against Brentford, ensured he leaves with the genuine affection of the supporter base – even if his overall contribution fell short of expectations.
