Manchester United and AC Milan are close to reaching a transfer agreement for Rasmus Hojlund, according to reports. The Dane has gone on the record to say that he wants to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the team, even with the signing of Benjamin Sesko set to be announced this weekend.
But the decision could be taken out of his hands if United try to force through a move. Ruben Amorim is set to start the season with Sesko up top, flanked by Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who can both play centrally if required. Joshua Zirkzee will also be waiting in the wings for opportunities to impress.
With the odds stacked against Hojlund finding his way back into the United line-up, AC Milan are ramping up their efforts to sign him. According to TMW, the Serie A giants have 'almost reached an agreement' with the Red Devils.
The proposal reportedly involves a hefty loan fee for the 2025/26 season and an option to buy at the end of it, with the total package tipping the scales at just over £43million.
That would still be a sizeable loss on the £72m United paid to Atalanta in 2023, but a season spent on the Old Trafford sidelines could see Hojlund's value plummet even further.
Last week, Hojlund was asked whether he had spoken to United chiefs about the plan moving forward. "[They've told me] nothing," he admitted. "The most important thing for me is to keep working hard and stay focused. Then, obviously, we'll see what happens. My plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens."
Milan would still need to strike an agreement with Hojlund for the move to go through, even if they manage to find common ground with the Red Devils.
Hojlund scored just four goals in 32 Premier League matches last season, which followed a 10-goal haul in his debut campaign. Amorim will hope that Sesko is the answer to his attacking prayers after United agreed on a £73.7m package with RB Leipzig.
Sesko is reportedly undergoing his medical today and will be unveiled to fans at Old Trafford on Saturday, when United host Fiorentina in a pre-season friendly. Their competitive campaign starts next Sunday with a home clash against Arsenal.
