Exciting new striker target linked with Newcastle United but Magpies could have to for out £70m …

· 8 August 2025, 11:30

**Newcastle United are battered and bruised this summer after seeing no less than nine transfer targets opt for moves elsewhere, but the Magpies aren't down for the count just yet.**

There are still a few weeks to get deals done, and Newcastle will keep fighting until they find the players they need to help with their upcoming campaign.

A defender, a midfielder and two strikers are still wanted by Eddie Howe, and the striker chase is the one causing all the issues right now.

Newcastle have just lost out on Benjamin Sesko, while the deal for Yoane Wissa from Brentford is still stalled out, but that one is expected to go ahead [according to Craig Hope.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14975769/Newcastle-transfers-strikers-Isak-Sesko-Jackson.html)

Sami Mokbel says Newcastle are eyeing FC Porto striker Samu Agehowa

It feels like there are no fish left in the top striker pool for Newcastle now, making replacing Alexander Isak very difficult; however, it may not be impossible, as journalist Sami Mokbel has told the Latte Firm podcast that Newcastle have a new striker in their sights. Porto's Samu Agehowa. Despite the fact that they've only just signed him on a permanent deal, Mokbel thinks Newcastle could make a move.

> “The situation they’re in at the moment, it’s unsustainable, and if it stays this way, they will have no option. They will just have to sell him (Isak).“And I think the machinations of them trying to get – I know they’ve lost out on Sesko now – but they’ve turned their attentions now to probably Ollie Watkins, maybe Nicolas Jackson.“The other name that I’ve heard for them is Samu from Porto.

> “So it does seem like they’re determined to get another in, that’s without Yoane Wissa, who is probably going to be Callum Wilson’s replacement.”

We've not heard of Samu ... but we like the look of him

-------------------------------------------------------

Samu signed for FC Porto for £12.7 million, but Atletico Madrid still owned a part of his rights until Porto paid another £10.4 million to buy out the rest of his contract this summer after the 21-year-old Spaniard scored 27 goals last season.

Given that they've only just paid for his contract, it's expected that Porto will demand a hefty fee for Samu, in the region of €80 million (£70 million). It's steep for an unproven player, but we're getting to the point now where we're going to have to take a big risk.

We could probably shave a few million off that asking price, but we'd have to do it quickly if we were to get a deal done. We're not going to sit here and say we know anything about the lad, as it's the first time we've even heard his name, but he sounds exciting, and at 21, he's perfect for Eddie Howe to get his hands on and create a masterpiece.
