Report now says Newcastle United are looking at 26-year-old international striker with £87m…

**Just when we thought there were no more top strikers Newcastle United could look at to fill the gap that will be left when Alexander Isak departs, the media keep finding new names to dig up.**

Sami Mokbel has thrown out the name of Samu Ahehowa as a potential target, and now [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/36187675/newcastle-scouts-vangelis-pavlidis-transfer-sesko/) have dug up the name of Greece international Vangelis Pavledis as a potential target.

The 26-year-old was reportedly scouted by Newcastle's team as Benfica took on Nice last week after impressing for Greece against England at Wembley in October.

Pavlidis scored twice as Greece registered their first-ever win over England in the Nations League last year.

Vangelis Pavlidis was a goal machine last season

------------------------------------------------

Vangelis Pavlidis scored 30 goals and registered 13 assists in 57 games for Benfica last season, on top of his brilliant goals for Greece at Wembley.

Manchester United had Pavlidis on their list if their move for Benjamin Sesko failed, but as that has now gone the other way, it makes sense that Newcastle would copy their homework.

Pavlidis has an £87 million release clause, which Newcastle are very unlikely to activate, but it does suggest that it could be another high fee involved if the Magpies were to make a bid.

Samu or Pavlidis?

**Vangelis Pavlidis or Samu Agehowa?**

His numbers are outstanding, albeit in the Portuguese league, but his strength and skill make him a prime candidate for Eddie Howe.

He could be a better option for Newcastle than Samu Agehowa, although Samu is five years younger. Both seem to have their plus points, as Samu looks to be more like a mini-Alexander Isak, with Pavlidis being more of a brute force striker.

We're honestly just happy there are still some decent-looking options out there. Let's keep the dream alive and see what happens.
