Sky Sports: The real reason David Moyes suddenly wants Aston Villa's John McGinn at Everton

Everton may have just signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but they are still looking to strengthen their midfield with another addition.

Plenty of positions still need to be filled at Everton in the final weeks of this summer’s transfer window.

During the pre-season tour of the United States, David Moyes shared his Everton transfer concerns, after the club have found it hard to get signings over the line.

Adding Dewsbury-Hall will be a big boost for the 62-year-old, and the midfielder has provided a glowing overview of his new club.

Speaking about the state-of-the-art new stadium, Dewsbury-Hall has hailed Everton’s ambition in a clear message to other potential summer additions.

Everton are keen to sign John McGinn from Aston Villa. On the back of their interest, Villa have immediately responded.

In response to the claimed bid, it is believed Villa have responded by telling all interested clubs that McGinn is not for sale.

The 62-year-old Everton boss is said to be keen to add the 30-year-old’s leadership and experience to this Everton side.

Moyes is looking to bring in nine signings this summer, with the clock ticking down to get more in before the start of the new season.

Any interest in McGinn has seemingly been rebuffed. So, it will be interesting to see whether Everton quickly turn their attention elsewhere.

David Moyes’ midfield options at Everton

The midfield has proven a fascinating area of the squad at Everton this summer.

Harrison Armstrong is pushing to impress Moyes on the back of his strong loan spell with Derby County.

Questions will remain as to whether Moyes will offer him enough football to warrant keeping him at the club this season, despite a solid pre-season.

And then there are players like James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam.

Moyes admitted he’s been disappointed by Garner for a lot of the pre-season games, but his showing against Manchester United was much improved.

Who will begin the opening game of the season alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye will certainly make for an interesting decision back at Finch Farm.
