Manchester United players are convinced they will have a successful first full season under head coach Ruben Amorim.

A senior United player assured the squad is "very optimistic" after a propitious pre-season tour of the United States, and that there is a "much better feel" around the camp.

Other dressing room sources have described the atmosphere as "very good" and stressed the players benefited from team-bonding dinners in Chicago, where United were based for nine nights.

Multiple United players enjoyed their stay in Chicago, where players could embark on sightseeing strolls with little hassle.

Captain Bruno Fernandes' decision to remain at Old Trafford has also been particularly well received by the squad. Fernandes now fronts United's new six-man leadership group that also includes Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Tom Heaton, Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui.

United players were fully behind Amorim's decision to omit the 'bomb squad' members from the core squad's training sessions and tour. Marcus Rashford has now joined Barcelona on a season-long loan but Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are still at the club.

The quartet are still under instructions to report at United's Carrington training complex for sessions separate to the first team's schedule.

United finished 15th in the Premier League and trophyless last season, their worst since they were relegated in 1974. The campaign also marked only the second time United have failed to qualify for Europe in the past 35 years.

Well-placed sources say United players are bullish about their prospects in the upcoming campaign partly because of the lack of midweek commitments.
