The Indianapolis Colts are holding an open quarterback competition between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson. Richardson was named the starter for the team’s first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, but went down shortly into the game.
“Colts QB Anthony Richardson (finger) won’t return to the game tonight, team says,” reported NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
As if that weren’t enough for Indianapolis to deal with, now they’ve lost another young star for the entire season.
“Colts 3rd-round rookie CB Justin Walley has torn his ACL and will miss the entire 2025 NFL season. He was in competition for a starting role this season,” Ari Meirov reported.
Fans reacted to the brutal development on social media.
“Mad injuries first pre-season game. A Rich dislocated finger, Bilhal Kone tore ACL/MCL and now this,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Walley ACL! Rookie season gone, that starting CB competition is now wide open,” another fan added.
“Players dropping like dominoes already…hate to see this,” someone else wrote.
“Horrible break for former Gophers CB Justin Walley — wishing for a speedy and smooth recovery,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Colts navigate dealing with so many injuries before the regular season has even begun.
