Report: Tottenham 'accelerating' move to sign 'special' forward, Levy willing to meet all…

Tottenham are making significant progress in their pursuit of Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott, with talks between the clubs ‘accelerating’ after James Maddison’s injury, journalist Steve Kay has revealed.

The Europa League winners have likely lost Maddison for the whole 2024/25 campaign following his horror ACL injury during a friendly against Newcastle and are on the lookout for an emergency replacement, with less than four weeks left in the transfer window.

Tottenham are believed to be long-term admirers of Elliott and even held talks with Liverpool before Maddison’s injury blow, with head coach Thomas Frank especially keen on bringing the 22-year-old to North London.

Frank is believed to have held direct conversations with Elliott last week, in which he pitched a vision of deploying the 'special' England U21 international in the No. 10 role, having identified Elliott as ‘central’ to his plans at Spurs next season.

According to Kay, Frank is a strong admirer of Elliott’s technical ability and would be prepared to give him a significant role in his first-team squad next season.

Elliott, who started just two Premier League games for Liverpool in 2024/25, is keen on leaving Anfield in search of regular playing time and reportedly views a move to Tottenham as an ideal opportunity to recapture his best form.

He also aims to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad next year and impress Thomas Tuchel further, following his strong displays at the Under-21 European Championships this summer.

Elliott was named Player of the Tournament after leading England U21 to the title and scored five goals, finishing as the competition’s second-highest goalscorer.

According to Kay, Liverpool are said to be open to selling Elliott for a fee in the region of £40m and are insistent on including a buy-back clause in any deal, with Tottenham understood to be willing to meet all of their demands.

Elliott is also believed to be a strong target for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, who are exploring a deal, having identified the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Chelsea-bound Xavi Simons.
