The Indianapolis Colts are looking for the right guy to lead the franchise into the future. The Colts planned on holding a standard training camp quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
Richardson seemed to have the early leg up on Jones and was named the starter for the team’s first preseason game. Unfortunately, Richardson went down early in his appearance Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens.
“Colts QB Anthony Richardson is out for the remainder of tonight’s game due to a finger injury,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
After the brutal injury, Colts head coach Shaen Steichen is deciding to reevaluate how he conducts the quarterback battle moving forward.
“Steichen said he’ll have to reevaluate the plan for the#Colts QBs next week if Richardson is available since Richardson got much less playing time than planned and Daniel Jones wound up getting more,” reported NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Fans reacted to the decision on social media.
“Ant was 3/4 (if not for one being called back) and looked great to start. More accurate, mature, few things to clean up, but expected in pre-season,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Give Ant another shot,” another fan wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if Richardson can get healthy in time to make another run at the starting job.
