Ex-Giants first-round pick is out of a job

The 49ers announced on Thursday that they have released cornerback Eli Apple.

Apple’s stint in San Francisco was a very short one — he signed a deal on July 28 after a tryout.

The release comes as a corresponding move to the 49ers signing defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour.

The Giants selected Apple in the first round of the 2016 draft with the No. 10 overall pick. He spent two seasons in New York and recorded one interception with 20 passes defended over 30 games.

The Giants traded Apple to the Saints during the 2018 season.

After his time with New Orleans, Apple spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers.
