OPINION: Arsenal Should Hijack£40m Tottenham Deal Instead Of Paying £68m For Eze

Arsenal should hijack Tottenham’s pursuit of Como midfielder Nico Paz instead of paying £68m for Eberechi Eze.

The Gunners seem all but done in the transfer market this summer. They have managed to add improvements in attack such as Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke, and also bring in midfield reinforcements too with Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.

However, it is understood that the Gunners still want to bring in a creative midfielder who can also play on the wing. They have been targeting Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, who has a £68m release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park.

Eze would be a fantastic addition, he had 25 goal contributions in all competitions last year for Oliver Glasner’s side, and is also proven in the Premier League. However, a £68m transfer fee is a hefty asking price, especially considering that Arsenal have already spent almost £200m this summer.

Arsenal should sign Como star instead

Instead of going after Eze, Arsenal could take a cheaper option, and also prevent their North London rivals Tottenham from landing a top target this summer.

Spurs suffered a blow recently as midfielder James Maddison suffered an ACL injury which is expected to keep him out for the majority of the Premier League season. So, Tottenham have identified Como midfielder Nico Paz as Maddison’s replacement.

Paz, 20, is a talented, creative midfielder, who can play in the middle or on the wing. He is technically gifted, but also knows how to play a killer pass, something that Arsenal could do with considering Martin Odegaard’s drop in form last year.

According to the Times, Spurs have made an approach for the midfielder, with a potential transfer fee of £40m touted. If the Gunners came in, they could potentially hijack Tottenham’s deal, and land an alternative to Eze, who is £28m cheaper, seven years younger, and with sky high potential.

Last year, Paz made 35 Serie A appearances for Cesc Fabregas’ side, scoring six goals, and providing nine assists. He is only expected to get better and better, and could become a real world-class midfielder.
