The last time we saw the Kansas City Chiefs take the field, they were thoroughly embarrassed by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, ending their bid to be the first franchise in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
The Chiefs are gearing up to make another run at a Lombardi, but many prominent figures in the sports mediasphere believe that the Chiefs’ dynasty is behind them. Now, FOX’s Colin Cowherd is adding his name to the list.
“I think Kansas City, the dynasty part is over,” Cowherd said, according to Awful Announcing. “They may win a Super Bowl, but I think their division is too good to be a dynasty.
“I’ll give you an example. When Nick Saban was at Alabama, LSU couldn’t get the right coach. Auburn couldn’t get the right coach. Ole Miss couldn’t get the right coach for most of it. Tennessee couldn’t get the right coach, and he dominated.
“But then Georgia got Kirby Smart, and then Texas just came in with Sark, and Nick Saban didn’t look as dominating. Same thing happened to Urban at Florida when Nick Saban came in. Urban Meyer was dominating, and then Nick Saban went to a great program, and then Urban wasn’t dominating.”
Last month, Emmanuel Acho suggested something similar.
“We all forget, in the midst of praising Tom Brady…the Patriots didn’t win a Super Bowl for 10 years. From 2004 to 2014, they did not win a championship. They won three, 10-year break, three. Patrick Mahomes has already won his three, are we in the midst of his 10-year hiatus?” he asked
“Has the drought begun for the Kansas City Chiefs and is everybody just afraid to say it because it’s sacrilegious to talk about Patrick Mahomes and it’s sacrilegious to talk about Andy Reid?” he asked.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Chiefs have another rabbit in the hat.
