‘It didn’t really work out’… Former youth international makes Man Utd admission after clinching new move

One of Manchester United’s former prospects has taken a new step as he attempts to restart his career.

Manchester United are always scouring youth football to try and find the best talent around. The summer of 2020 saw the club take a particularly aggressive approach.

United signed Alvaro Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho among others, while another recruit was England youth international Logan Pye.

Pye joined from Sunderland in a double deal with Joe Hugill, who is still at the club, on loan at Barnet.

Injuries derailed Pye’s progression at Manchester United and he ended up leaving to sign with Burnley in September 2023.

Logan Pye latest

Logan Pye featured during Manchester United’s 2022 FA Youth Cup winning run, playing twice on the way to the final.

He ended up playing 30 games for United’s youth sides, missing large spells with injuries, delaying his progress.

Pye has yet to crack the Burnley first team, and has now been sent on loan to Accrington Stanley, where he hopes to make his professional debut at 21.

He told the Accrington Stanley website that he admits his spell at Manchester United did not go the way he wanted it to.

Pye said: “I started at Sunderland when I was seven-years-old, then I moved to Manchester United when I was 16, just before I signed a scholar, so I signed a scholar and went there as pro.

“It didn’t really work out as I planned, so I had to take a little step back, came to Burnley, and that’s when it started going well again.”

“I need to play men’s football and get used to that, so it’s the ideal time to come out on loan.”

Loan club delighted with move

Accrington Stanley’s manager is pleased to acquire Pye’s services on loan for the season, claiming he has had his eye on him for a while.

John Doolan said: “I looked at Logan last pre-season, I only needed to see 20 minutes of him. He is a proper left-back, athletic, physical, can defend one-v-one situations, gets forward, and has outstanding qualities, and that’s the reason he is at Burnley.

“We didn’t want bodies in, but quality players, and we have took our time with them, and we are glad to get Logan over the line.”

We wish Logan Pye the best as he looks to get his career back on track.
