The transfer window is never straightforward, nor is the current striker domino effect going on at the top level. Newcastle United are in the market for a new striker and new reports from David Ornstein could see them move away from Nicolas Jackson, leaving the attacker stuck at Stamford Bridge.

Per Ornstein, the Magpies are now weighing up a move for Spanish striker Samu Aghehowa. The FC Porto man joined the Portuguese team just last summer from Atletico Madrid and was of interest to the Blues at one point in time.

The young attacker was known as Samu Omorodion before changing his name during the campaign, which is why some may not recognise him from last year’s transfer window. He impressed at Porto after joining, notching 27 goals in 45 appearances.
Jackson Loses a Suitor?
Most reports had linked Eddie Howe’s side with a move for wantaway Senegal international Jackson. The striker has found himself out in the cold to some degree after a red card in the Club World Cup. His minutes were significantly reduced upon his return with Liam Delap and Joao Pedro replacing him.
A move for Aghehowa would likely end any interest in the Chelsea man who would likely command a similarly big fee. There is, of course, less risk associated with a Premier League proven marksman as he has 34 goal contributions in 65 top division outings since moving to Stamford Bridge.

This is sure to drag on as Newcastle will have a decision on their hand. Take a bit of a risk on a raw gem from Porto, or spend a bit more to take a chance on someone familiar with the league and who could fit Howe’s style of play like a glove.
